Type of School: A private university preparatory high school; grades 9-12.
Accreditation: ILHS is recognized by the State of Illinois Department of Education and is fully accredited by the NCPSA, a national accreditation program for private schools.
Location: Illinois Lutheran High School is located just 35 miles south of Chicago, Illinois. Chicago is the third largest city in America and is located on Lake Michigan of the Great Lakes. Chicago is a beautiful city with many site-seeing and cultural opportunities. Chicago has many professional sports teams including the Cubs and White Sox (baseball), Bears (football), Bulls (basketball), Black Hawks (hockey) and Fire (soccer).
School Enrollment: Approximately 100 students with a student/teacher ratio of 12/1. Average class size is 15.
Housing for Students: International students live with host families during the school year. Our host family program consists of families who are committed to providing a caring home-away-from-home experience for these students.
Advisory Services: An International Program Coordinator supports all international students with day-to-day needs, communicates with parents, assists with necessary medical needs and more.
Transportation: Chicago has two airports, Chicago Midway and O’Hare, both one hour from Crete. Chicago has an excellent train system, the Metra. 35 minutes away from downtown Chicago are Navy Pier, Field Museum, Soldier Field, Museum of Science and Industry, Grant Park, Chinatown, numerous theaters, and shopping venues.
School Year Calendar: Classes begin in mid-August and end in late-May each year.
College Prep Coursework: Courses in math, science, English, history, computer science, social studies, AP (advanced placement) and dual enrollment courses (through local community college) are taught in preparation for college entrance.
Academic/College Guidance: Special assistance is given for course planning, as well as college/university planning, preparation and application. Assistance is available in making visits to university campuses.
Academic Help Available: Tutoring is available as well as scheduled study halls with supervision.
Activities and Athletics: Students are encouraged to participate in activities outside the classroom. Interscholastic athletics include: soccer, volleyball, cheer, basketball, softball, baseball. Many students participate in drama, choir, band, yearbook, student council and a variety of volunteer service opportunities.
Special weekend activities and cultural outings, a mentoring program, and peer tutors are also available for student participation.
